Kaolin is a type of clay minerals that can be almost found in many places which include Malaysia itself. In construction, kaolin is used to produce Metakaolin which is an important cement admixture to increase the strength of concrete. Its add on is similar to the addition of pozzolans, reduce the amount of cement used, lesser cement more environmentally friendly, stronger durability and compressive strength in the end product. The kaolin is white in color and other colour of kaolin only suggest impurities in it. The only drawbacks of metakaolin are the correct adjustment of using the correct ratio in the cement because too much or too less of metakaolin would reduce the overall performance of concrete.
