INSTALLATION METHOD FOR CHAIR RAILS

Materials You'll Need:

Chair rail molding
Measuring tape
Level
Pencil
Mitre saw or coping saw
Adhesive (construction adhesive)
Concrete Nails
Pneumatic nail gun
Putty filler
Sponge

Step 1: Measure and Plan
Measure the length of the wall(s) where you want to install the chair rail. Determine the desired height for the chair rail, which is typically around 32 to 36 inches from the floor, but it can vary depending on your preference and the room's design.
Mark the desired height at several points along the wall and use a level to connect the marks with a straight line. This line will serve as a guide for installing the chair rail.

Step 2: Cut Chair Rail Moulding
3. Measure the length of the chair rail needed for each section of the wall. Cut the chair rail moulding at 45° angles at the corners using a mitre saw or coping saw. Ensure the angles are cut correctly so they match at the corners.

Step 3: Apply Adhesive
4. Apply construction adhesive to the back of the chair rail moulding. Ensure you apply enough adhesive to create a strong bond with the wall.

Step 4: Position and Install
5. Carefully place the chair rail moulding along the guideline you marked on the wall. Make sure it's level by using a level. Secure the chair rail to the wall by nailing it in place. Make sure to drive the fasteners through the moulding and into the wall studs for a secure attachment. Space the fasteners approximately every 16-24 inches along the length of the chair rail.

Step 5: Finishing Touches
7. Fill any gaps or nail holes with filler, then sand the chair rail to ensure a smooth surface.
Apply putty filler along the top and bottom edges of the chair rail where it meets the wall. This will create a seamless appearance and seal any gaps. Once the putty is dry, paint or finish the chair rail to match your room's décor. You can choose to paint it the same colour as the walls for a subtle look or a contrasting colour for a more dramatic effect.

Step 6: Cleanup
10. Remove any excess adhesive or paint from the wall and chair rail using a damp cloth or sponge.

Once you've completed these steps, your chair rail should be securely installed and ready to enhance the aesthetics of your room while protecting the walls from scuffs and marks.
